Q & A Session:
Nicknames: Mac, Madge, Mario de pizzabakker and many more ... that's what you get with having a not-so-international name like Marjolijn! International/domestic teams played for: Netherlands Under-21s and the Netherlands Other clubs played for: Quick Haag in The Hague (Holland) and Ajax Leiden in Oegstgeest (Holland) Different countries played cricket in: Holland, Ireland, England, Scotland, New Zealand and Pakistan Favourite cricket pitch in Christchurch: I don't really have a favourite. It would be cool to be able to play on Hagley 1 some time though! Favourite cricket ground in the world: The MCG (especially on Boxing Day) Cricketing superstitions: I always have my own wee routine when walking in to bat and I don't feel comfortable if I can't do it. I also don't like seeing ducks on a match day! I try avoiding hanging 111 on the board too. Oh, and I always tap my bat behind the crease before walking to the other batsman between overs! I'm not a superstitious person at all, except when it comes to cricket! Most memorable moment in cricket career: Playing at the National Stadium in Karachi, Pakistan and seeing my name on the scoreboard when I was bowling! That, and getting 2-38 off 10 overs playing against the White Ferns, getting Emily Drumm and Rebecca Rolls out. The next day I was put back in my place though, getting 0-40 off 5 ... Worst/most embarrassing moment in cricket career: Dropping a catch against the West Indies in the IWCC Trophy (World Cup qualification tournament) in Holland in 2003. I still don't know how it didn't stick and after I dropped it, the girl (who was their main batsman) hit a 4, a 6, another 4, ANOTHER 4. At the time, I would have been quite happy for the ground to open up and take me in. The Windies made the World Cup, Holland didn't, and I still wonder what would have happened if I hadn't dropped that catch ... Most admired players: Probably Andrew Symonds and Brett Lee (sorry, they're both Aussies!) Toughest opponents: I'm not sure over here, but back home it would have to be Rood & Wit - the club Rowan Milburn, Hannah Rae and Sarah Burke played for. When are Saints girls going to realise that Quick Haag is the club to go to in Holland?! St Albans player to watch out for the in the future: Lea Tahuhu - she's one of the quickest female bowlers I know and if she can get her consistency right, she'll be awesome. Interests outside of cricket: Music, going for coffee with friends, reading, studying political science, going out and, of course, travelling! I'd love to see the whole world, but for some reason I keep coming back to New Zealand! Favourite TV programmes: Friends, Scrubs, The Simpsons Favourite bands: U2 and Green Day are awesome bands, but there are so many great bands out there... So hard to pick a favourite! Favourite song: That's a tough one too ... I'd have to go with "Mr Jones" by Counting Crows and "Jerk It Out" by Caesars. Most embarrassing moment in life: I usually manage to embarrass myself at least once every day, but I think my 'worst/most embarrassing moment in cricket career' would have to be in my 'most embarrassing moment in life' top 3! |
